Behind the Scenes in the Studio
I'm Mark Buckman, a visual artist based in North Carolina working under the BadRobot Art brand. I came up through print, photography, and design, spending decades telling other people's stories before I found my way back to making my own.The records chose me as much as I chose them. There's something about a vintage 78 that already carries weight, a voice pressed into shellac, passed through decades of hands before it landed in mine. I paint directly on that history. Layer by layer, the faces of musicians, icons, and cultural legends emerge from the black. The record isn't just the canvas. It's part of the story.Every piece is handmade, one at a time, in my studio in North Carolina. No prints. No reproductions. Just the work, the music, and whatever that moment calls for.
